Our garden is officially on the books at VEAP with the first pound of kale donated last week.  Although it doesn’t seem like much, a pound of kale practically filled the plastic grocery bag.  With the late start and wet, cool temperatures, we haven’t had too much to harvest except the kale.  Our plants, however, are healthy and full of blooms so we look forward to a bounty of harvest in the fall.  Thanks to Cal and Sandy Jenson for doing God’s work with their hands by updating the lattice screens and wood chips to freshen up the space.  Feel free to stop by and enjoy the solitude while taking in the beauty of God’s creation.

CALLING ALL LEFSE LOVERS!  This year’s harvest will also include our first potato crop and we are hoping to be able to use some of them to make lefse in October.  LEFSE MAKING AT HOUSE OF PRAYER is always a great way to bring friends and family together and have fun while supporting the Fall Festival Bake Sale.  We will be putting out a request for griddles & such at a later date so dust off your rolling pins and mark your calendars for October 17th & 18th in Fellowship Hall Kitchen.

WEED love to have your help in the Community Mission Garden.  Our VEAP garden is doing well and the ‘tater tires are almost ready to grow into their second tire.  We usually meet on Friday mornings to tend the garden and tackle small projects around HoP.  Are you looking for a way to help with little commitment?  We invite you to spend some time in solitude while tending to the garden and pulling weeds.  No skills necessary.  No tools necessary.  You can leave the pulled weeds near the compost bin and they will be disposed of.  If you have questions, contact Kim Houle at 612-558-0634.  Thanks for doing God’s work with your hands!

TIRES 'N TATERS!

We finished our plantings just in time for this past weekend's rain-fest.  No doubt the seedlings are jumping for joy in their new "digs".  Sandy and Cal Jenson spent much of their Memorial Day weekend planting.   Thanks to Mike Murphy for once again generously donating tomatoes, kale, eggplant, and marigolds.

We have started our potato tire towers with two towers forming in the South bed.  This is an experiment for us and we have no idea what to expect, so we have also planted potatoes in our raised bed to give us a comparison.

Planted to date:  Potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, carrots, radishes, and kale.

Let the growing begin!

Garden Work Day - This Friday, May 23rd 9:00 a.m.  We will be preparing the beds and continue our clean up in the garden area.  Bring your work gloves, a rake, and some elbow grease!

Our workday last Friday was cold and rainy, with some snowflakes to boot.  Despite that, thanks to Cal and Sandy Jenson, we completed repairs on the lattice wall and continued cleanup of the garden area.  Our beds will be tilled this week and hopefully we will have planting done before the weekend.

Elvis is ready to get to work!  Let's hope the weather continues to cooperate, allowing us to accomplish some of our tasks tomorrow, Friday, May 16th.

On Saturday we will receive our seed packets & seedlings from the Seed Hub (Gardening Matters).  I am excited to see the new varieties they will offer this year.
